U16 unlucky in opening Interleague game
Our Desmond League U16 Girls Interleague team opened their campaign on Saturday versus a strong & physical Limerick County side but unfortunately the girls went down to a 1-0 defeat in a great game watched by a large crowd at Killeaney AFC.
The defeat was tough to take after an excellent, battling & passionate display from the girls who gave everything to the last kick of the ball but it just wasn’t to be. An early 1st half County goal was the decider with County defending resolutely to prevent us getting at least a draw from the game. The girls played some exceptional & exciting football from back to front & the general feeling from the watching crowd was that they definitely deserved something from the game for their efforts.
Thanks for the super support & encouragement from parents & supporters, to referee John Roche & to Killeaney AFC for the use of their excellent facilities. A tough away trip to Mayo in a few weeks is our next outing in this group but the girls are already looking forward to it & another chance to show off their excellent abilities.
Team: Hannah Neville Laura Browne, Lucy Mcinnes, Grace Fitzgibbon, Sarah Curtin, Emma Harris, Isabel O’Carroll, Julia Sobczak. Midfield – Summer Behan, Ciara Curtin, Kristina Bokmane, Aoife Geary, Aideen Riedy, Kayley O’Dwyer, Gemma Leahy, Catrina Gabor.
Thanks also to Kelsey Quinn & Sara Mae Murphy for coming along to support even though both are injured.
